Comments | Rules on Voting & Tabulation 1997 Best Storyline: Reva/Josh/Annie This triangle spurned many great individual stories including Harley and Annie in the psych ward, Annie's intervention, destroying Cross Creek, Annie throwing herself down the stairs, Reva pretending to be pushed by Annie, Annie blackmailing Fran and getting artificially inseminated, and Reva's trial for "murdering" a baby Annie had already lost. It certainly was the dominating story of the year, and the majority seemed to enjoy it, naming Annie vs. Reva as the best storyline of 1997. Coming in second with 101 votes (nearly 25% of the responses) was Reva finding her sister, Cassie. After months of wondering who Reva's sister is, you weren't disappointed. Tied for third was "The Sting" in New York where Jenna, Phillip, and Harley brought down Jeffrey and Phillip and Harley's coupling (32 votes for each). 1997 Best Couple: Phillip and Harley Forget the reunion of Reva and Josh, the couple that lit up the screen last year on GL was Phillip and Harley. When word came that Harley would return to Springfield, internet fans quickly paired her with Phillip before their on-screen match-up. Phillip and Harley won with 205 votes, Reva and Josh were second with 128 votes. 1997 Best Actor: Robert Newman (Josh Lewis) With leading ladies like Cynthia Watros (Annie) and Kim Zimmer (Reva), Robert Newman knows how to shine. Coming in a close second (five less votes) was Grant Aleksander (Phillip). Not far behind was Justin Deas (Buzz). 1997 Best Actress: Cynthia Watros (Annie Dutton) With 143 votes, Cynthia won, but Reva was far from out. She received 122 votes. Annie's scheming and manipulations, and probaby airtime, brought her out ahead in fan's minds. Let's not forget the range of acting. From battling her addiction to booze and pills, destroying Cross Creek, and throwing herself down stairs, Cynthia had a lot to keep her busy this past year. She'll be missed in 1998. 1997 Favorite Newcomer: Cassie Layne Wow, has Cassie Layne made a lot of friends in Springfield! With 336 votes, no one even came close to beating her in this category. Good thing Cassie has family in town, looks like a lot of viewers would like her to stick around. 1997 Best Villianess: Annie Dutton As one fan stated, "is there any doubt?" that Annie is GL's Best Villianess and 411 other fans agreed. Annie's life was a scheme this past year. Whose life didn't she involve herself in? From Blake, to Ross, including Dinah, Beth, Amanda, Josh, Reva, Alan, Harley, and Phillip - her list of enemies is longer than the Energizer bunny's battery life. 1997 Best Villian: Alan Spaulding Although many mentioned that GL doesn't have many male villians, and some commented they wished they could be voting for Roger in this category, Alan won. From interfering with his son's life, finding out his daughter is really his sister, and falling in love with the most-hated woman in Springfield, Alan has remained front and center this past year. 1997 Most Romantic: Phillip and Harley From friends to lovers, many want to see this relationship progress and their quirky romance is a hit with fans. Josh and Reva were second.
1997 Male Best Dresser: Phillip Spaulding With the Spaulding money, Phillip can afford to look good. He looks great in suits and casual clothes (and as one fan commented, "although I'd rather see him with nothing on!"). Phillip in a towel spurned many message board discussions. Fans are definitely pleased with his wardrobe choices. Coming in second was Hart Jessup.
1997 Female Best Dresser: Reva Shayne With 103 votes Reva Shayne was the winner. Not far behind was Annie Dutton with 83 votes. 1997 Favorite Returnee: Harley Cooper When Harley returned for the ball at the beginning of 1997 fans clamored to have her back. After much, will she? or won't she? return (the hold up presumbly being Ehlers' wanting to stay on the west coast), she returned, much to the delight of many fans. No one even came close to beating Harley as favorite returnee, she won the category by nearly 300 votes. Second was Vanessa Reardon, third was Maureen Bauer who received less than half the amount of votes that Vanessa received. 1997 Best Triangle: Reva/Josh/Annie Not that fans thought Josh and Annie were that great of a couple, but boy, did this triangle give GL an awful lot of material the past year. They received 174 votes, with Harley/Beth/Phillip not far behind as best triangle with 133 votes. Not too far behind them in third place was Cassie/Hart/Dinah. That triangle is one many fans are watching closely as Cassie and Hart heat up the screen. 1997 Worst Storyline: Nola/Buzz/Jenna Not only did many find Nola's stalking of Buzz to be ridiculous, but him getting amnesia really clinched it for fans, voting this as worst storyline of 1997. Second place was Michelle and Jesse's story. 1997 Worst Couple: Hart and Dinah Hart and Dinah barely "beat" Michelle and Jesse for the title of Worst Couple of 1997 (Hart/Dinah won by two votes). Although their relationship was interesting at the beginning (after all, Dinah was married to Hart's father), these two fought more than they made love. Certainly, they're one couple few expected would last. 1997 Worst Actor: Paulo Benedeti (Jesse Blue) Overwhelmingly, Paulo was chosen as worst actor. Many felt he needed lessons, but a few suggested it could be that he isn't given much to work with. Second was Hunt Block (Ben Warren), although the competition wasn't that close. 1997 Worst Actress: Rebecca Budig (Michelle) Up against GL powerhouses like Cynthia Watros and Kim Zimmer, Rebecca Budig's portrayol of Michelle Bauer just isn't satisfying viewers. Second in this category was Tammy Blanchard as Drew Jacobs. 1997 Least Romantic: Annie and Alan Sure, Alan did fall in love with Annie, but a year's worth of antics trying to get Josh didn't exactly make us feel that Annie was using Alan for love, only money and power. Second was Jesse and Michelle - clearly this Romeo/Juliet (supposedly) love story isn't ranking in the romance points. 1997 Worst Villian: Ben Warren With 111 votes, Ben Warren was chosen as worst villian. Not far behind was Alan (88 votes) and Roger (74 votes). As Ben intertwines himself in the lives' of Springfield residents, will he become more popular? Stay tuned! 1997 Worst Villianess: Dinah Marler With 189 votes, Dinah was clearly the pollster's choice as worst villianess. As Dinah continues to strike out against Cassie and Hart, look for her bad girl ways to continue. 1997 Worst Triangle: Marcus/Dahlia/Sugar With 177 votes, they barley edged out another of GL's worst triangles - Nola/Buzz/Jenna (174 votes). Marcus/Dahlia/Sugar not only never really took off, it just didn't hold the interest of viewers. 1997 Worst Newcomer: Drew Jacobs With 170 votes, many don't care for Drew. Second was Sugar Hill with 119 votes. Word is that she is well liked by executive producer Paul Rauch, so we may be seeing more and more of her. 1997 Worst Returnee: Ed Bauer Many felt that it wasn't the character, but the actor portraying Ed Bauer that made them choose him as Worst Returnee of 1997. Peter Simon, the actor who played Ed Bauer previously, just didn't want to return to the show. Robert Gentry is on recurring status, so if Peter ever decides to return GL could open the door. Ed Bauer received 232 of the votes. Second was Beth Spaulding with 149. 1997 Female Worst Dresser: Dinah Marler With 137 votes, Dinah was chosen as worst dresser. Some mentioned specific outfits (Dinah in leather? I can't forget that hat! Why so many sleeveless outfits?). Clearly her outifts are the wrong style, too tight, too short, too frumpy - too anything but stylish. Nola (we all know her fashion sense or lack there of) came in second with 102 votes and Harley came in third with 65 votes. 1997 Male Worst Dresser: Jesse Blue Leather jackets, greasy hair, and a wallet chain just aren't doing it for fans, voting him the worst dresser of 1997. Second place was Buzz Cooper. One fan commented "how many times can he wear that blue jean shirt?" General rules and regulations on how voting was done and votes were tabulated:
