Reva has given H.B. the will to live by telling him she is pregnant with his baby. He agrees to have the heart surgery he needs to survive, and while he is in surgery, Jeva talk. (Unsure of the exact airdate, sometime in 1985). Josh: Hang in there. Reva: I didn't ask anybody how long this is going to take. Josh: It could take all night. Reva: Do you think Harlan's strong enough to stand that? Josh: Yeah I do....I've been a little worried about you though. You wanna go find a place to take a nap somewhere? Reva: No, I couldn't sleep. Maybe we should go back upstairs and be where the nurses can find us. Josh: If the nurses need us they'll find us.
Reva: Did you see this by any chance?
Josh: It must be a federal law against having a passport photo that looks
good.
Reva:
Josh: He wants to live, that's very important. You gave him that reason.
Reva: The baby.
Josh: He wants to raise a baby with you, I don't think he's ready to give up
yet.
Reva: Do you mind very much that it's Harlan's baby?
Josh: Yes.....no......I don't know. I just never thought that you and H.B.
ever...
Reva: Slept together?
Josh: Yeah, I guess I just never thought of you as husband and wife that's
all. That may have been the problem from the very beginning.
Reva: I'm gonna explain something to you, and I want you to listen and not
interrupt because it's hard enough to say. I love you, with all my heart and
soul. And knowing that kind of love has made me free to love all the more. And
I do love your daddy so much. He gives me courage, he makes me smile, and
laugh, and he makes me like myself. And that's why I wanna have this baby,
Josh. Because it's a baby that's been made from that kind of love. And that is
good. I want this baby Joshua.
Josh: I know.
Reva: Do you understand?
Josh: You want to raise this baby with my father. The baby's gonna have the
most beautiful mother in the world.
[H.B. is out of surgery and doing good, Josh has big news for Reva though.]
Josh: Listen, there's something that I have to tell you.
Reva: What?
Josh: I'm going away. This time I think it's for good.
Reva: No, Josh you can't do that, Harlan needs you.
Josh: No, he needs you. He needs to know that I won't come between the two
of you again.
Reva: Well you don't have to leave town for him to know that.
Josh: Yes I do Reva. I think it's the only way.
Reva: He trusts you.
Josh: That's not the point. It's me, it's that I don't trust myself. I love
you and I always will. And I will always want you, and if I stayed in
Springfield I don't know if I could keep those feelings in check.
Reva: I could help you.
Josh: No, you tried that once before, remember? The night of the storm.
Reva: Josh that was one time.
Josh: There will be other storms still and there will be other nights. There
always will be for us. I just have to go out on my own. I have to go out and
try to start over again.
Reva: I know, I know you have to leave in time, but just wait a month or a
couple weeks at least.
Josh: I'm leaving today.
Reva: Well how do you think Harlan's going to feel if you just pack up and
walk out?
Josh: I can't think about that right now. I have to think about myself, I
have to go out there and find my own life Reva. Please don't fight me on this.
I feel like I'm drowning here. I feel like I have to do everything I can just
to keep my head above water, I can't stay here! Besides that, you and H.B.
need exactly the same thing. You need to live your lives without me. I am
going to miss you so much. I'm gonna miss everybody, but I just can't stay
here. Nobody ever said it was going to be easy.
Reva: Will you visit?
Josh: I want to see my baby brother. Or sister, whichever it is, whenever he
or she is born.
Reva: I love you and I'll miss you too. [They embrace.]
