Josh watches Reva skinny-dipping in the pond. As she is getting dressed, she feels she is being watched and turns around to see Josh. Reva: Joshua.
Josh: I'm sorry, I didn't know that you were here, um...
Reva: No please. Don't go.
Josh: What did you just say?
Reva: I didn't mean that the way it sounded. There's no need to be
embarrassed, we're both adults.
Josh: Speak for yourself.
Reva: It's not like you haven't seen it all before, we do have two children,
right?
Josh: Reva, you know, I really do have to go.
Reva: Oh Joshua, please stop. I'm dressed now, you could turn around.
Josh: Listen, I'm really sorry about this.
Reva: It's over, it's done.
Josh: You just surprised me, that's all. I mean, I came around the corner
and...
Reva: Joshua it was an accident okay? I mean you're a lot of things but a
peeping tom isn't one of them.
Josh: So you make it a habit of skinny-dipping in duck ponds?
Reva: No, I just needed to cool off. I used to swim in ponds a lot, remember?
You used to swim with me.
Josh: Yes, I do remember.
Reva: It was a long time ago, another lifetime.
Josh: Why did you ask me to stay?
Reva: I need you.
Josh: You need me?
Reva: Alan struck again.
Josh: Alan?
Reva: The old slimebag himself.
Josh: What did he do this time?
Reva: Well, he just got his buddies at the state capital to pass a law that
made the interstate possible to go right through the middle of the diner.
Josh: I'll tell you what, you gotta give that guy credit for perseverance.
Reva: Well can you stop it Joshua?
Josh: You're asking me?
Reva: Yeah, I don't have any tips to call in but you do. You know you did all
that renovation work on the state capitol building and you've got an in with
all those big politicals through Lewis Oil.
Josh: Yeah, there's some truth to that but um...
Reva: I wouldn't be asking you if I didn't need the help. I wouldn't be
asking at all if it wasn't really important. Together we can do this Bud.
Josh: I'm sorry, I can't help you.
Reva: You're gonna say no just like that? Don't you wanna even hear me out?
Josh: I don't need to hear you out Reva.
Reva: Well if you just heard what I had to say.....
Josh: Reva you can't come running to me every time you have a problem and I
can't keep jumping back into your life.
Reva: Well it's not just my life, it's Buzz's too. Did he do something to
tick you off?
Josh: No this has nothing to do with you husband.
Reva: Well did I?
Josh: No you didn't.
Reva: Well what about all those other people?
Josh: What other people?
Reva: You got involved in the Fifth Street fight because of the people that
live down there didn't you?
Josh: Yes I did.
Reva: Well those people are my neighbors, they're my people. I mean they're
poor, there's children, there's people who can't fend for themselves.
Josh: Reva I know, I know. I did everything I could to help them and I did
everything I could to help you.
Reva: Well there's more to do Joshua.
Josh: Well I'm sorry but this time I'm not going to do it, not this time.
Reva: Why not? Why is it different now? I mean you had that big fair at the
farm, you helped is raise thousands of dollars in cash.
Josh: Yes I did.
Reva: Well then what's the problem?
Josh: The problem is that if I help you now you're gonna need help again, and
then after that you're gonna need help again.
Reva: All we need the interstate off our backs.
Josh: No all you need is Alan Spaulding off your back. You see, you're not
looking at the root of the problem here.
Reva: Then help me do that.
Josh: Reva I can't. You have to do it yourself. Everything that has happened
at Fifth Street has happened because of you. If you want to save the diner
you're going to have to go to Alan Spaulding and you're gonna have to fix it
with him.
Reva: You're blaming me for this whole thing? You think it's something that I
did?
Josh: Isn't it?
Reva: You know it's just like you Joshua, blaming me for everything.
Josh: I didn't say that.
Reva: Well you might as well have.
Josh: Don't blow this out of proportion.
Reva: And what would be in proportion? Hiring a skywriter, Reva Shayne as
usual is responsible for the demise of an entire neighborhood. Bulldozing her
own husband's diner, putting a lot of very good, innocent people out of their
homes all by my itsy bitsy little lonesome self.
Josh: You know now you're just being ridiculous.
Reva: You know what Alan is capable of and you don't put any blame on him, no
you throw it all up at me.
Josh: He was in love with you and you led him on. When I found you, you were
getting on a plane with him to go spend the rest of your life with him.
Reva: Don't throw that at me again.
Josh: Why not Reva it happened.
Reva: Because I was scared and I was alone, that's why it happened.
Josh: You made him believe that you loved him and then you dumped him! And I
wanna tell you something, that hurts! You do that to a man, he gets angry, he
wants to do something back.
Reva: Are you talking about yourself or Alan?
Josh: I'm talking about Alan.
Reva: Well, I'm sorry I bothered you. I'll handle this problem on my own.
Josh: I think that's a good idea.
Reva: And I'm sorry I asked you for just a little bit of help.
Josh: I'm sure you could handle it.
Reva: Well go on now, go back home, go back to your wife, back to our
children and never mind about me.
Josh: I think I'll do just that.
Reva: And when I end up on the street it'll be because I deserved it for
everything I did to Alan, right?
Josh: Come on Reva, just fix this with him.
Reva: It may not be that easy. Alan and I have quite a history you know. I
mean when I think about all the things we did and all the ways we did it...
Josh: Oh please, I don't want to hear this.
Reva: All those nights I must have kept him awake and now he's destroying an
entire neighborhood because of me.
Josh: Reva no don't even...
Reva: He must be having some dreams too. One in particular, me slipping out
of that favorite little dress of mine, you know the one Joshua. Gold sequins
cut down to nowhere.
Josh: Don't do this.
Reva: Why not? Don't you want the juicy details cause I'd be more then happy
to tell you.
Josh: Shut up Reva, shut up! You just stop it right now Reva.
Reva: Can't take it Joshua, a little too much for you?
Josh: Let me tell you something, I couldn't care less about you and Alan,
okay? You were with him, you dumped him, you married Buzz no big deal. But you
brought all of this on yourself. And I can't help you with it.
Reva: Fine, whatever you say Bud. I'll handle it on my own.
Reva leaves and returns home where Buzz has prepared a romantic evening. But as she kisses him, it's Josh's face she sees. And Josh is still at the pond as he daydreams about having seen Reva skinny-dipping.
