This category was a real nail-biter! Michael Park beat Larry Bryggman by two votes! Michael (he plays Jack) received 240 votes and Larry (he plays John) received 238 votes. Coming in third with 115 votes (12%) was Scott Holmes (Tom).

Best Actress

Ellen Dolan (Margo) creamed the competition this year, receiving 259 votes or 28% of the total. Three other ladies nearly tied: Maura West (Carly, 138 votes), Elizabeth Hubbard (Lucinda, 135 votes), and Kelley Menighan Hensley (Emily, 123 votes). Martha Byrne (Lily) took fifth place with 93 votes.

Best Newcomer

Another extremely close race. Think back to when the character of Eddie Silva was first introduced. His character really went through the ringer on-line. Well, give each character a little time, as Eddie was voted best newcomer for 1998! The competition was very close, here's the final tally: Eddie Silva, 272 votes or 29%; Julia Lindsay, 263 votes or 28%; Brad Snyder, 225 votes or 24%; and Georgia Tucker, 159 votes or 17%. These newcomers are blending into Oakdale well.

Best Couple

The fans are clear, Tom and Margo are the best! They received 167 votes or 23% of the total. Only two other couples received more than 100 votes: Jack and Julia with 120 votes and Lily and Holden with 112 votes. Fourth place went to Jack and Carly with 86 votes.

Best Wedding

Not even John and Carly's hilarious nuptials in the Caribbean could match Lily and Holden's January re-marriage. Lily and Holden received 668 votes or 72% of the total. Carly and John came in second with 183 votes or 20%.

Best Triangle

Margo/Tom/Emily was voted as the best triangle by a wide margin - 250 votes or 34% of the total. Second place was close with Jack/Julia/Carly winning at 19% or 191 votes. Third and fourth place; Camille/Brad/Ben received 174 votes or 17% and Carly/Jack/Hal received 143 votes or 14%.

Favorite Female Character:

Fans enjoyed Margo Hughes the most this past year. She received 24% of the votes (242). Second place went to Lucinda Walsh with 154 votes. Third went to Carly with 140 votes. Fourth and fith place: Lily Snyder and Julia Lindsay.

Favorite Male Character

What would we do without Jack Snyder? Receiving 39% of the total votes (292) he is clearly a fan favorite. Second place went to Holden Snyder with 93 votes, third to John Dixon with 75 votes.

Best Villian

For 1998, Stenbecks rule! David (315 votes) and James (244 votes) know what it takes to be a great villian. Third place: John Dixon with 88 votes (truly one of ATWT's all-time great villians!)

Best Villianess

She was once James Stenbeck's lover. Her mother was involved in a love triangle many years ago with one of Oakdale's most respected families. Today, when she sets her sights on a man she'll go as low as possible to snare him. Tom Hughes was the object of her desire in 1998, and that made Emily Stewart your choice as the number one villianess for this past year. She received 44% of the votes (338). Carly Tenney came in second with 215 votes or 28% of the total.

Worst Actor

It's tough being a kid on soaps. Fans feel Craig Lawlor (Adam) needs a bit more practice as he received top billing this year (115 votes or 17%). Hang in there Craig.

Worst Actress

Doing much better than last year with fans, but not quite there yet, Lesli Kay Sterling (Molly) was chosen worst actress by a mere three votes over castmate Terri Conn. Terri (she plays Katie) received 89 votes. Third place went to Valerie Perrine (Dolores, 78 votes).

Worst Couple

Was there any doubt Emily and Tom would be top choice for worst couple (especially after reading Margo and Tom was voted best couple?!). They were chosen by 26% of the fans. Second place went to Carly and John with 12% of the total votes.

Worst Newcomer

Dolores Pierce is definitely not pleasing fans at this point. She received 354 out of 897 votes (39%). Second place went to Katie Peretti with 213 votes or 24%.

Worst Triangle

Another tough race. John/Barbara/Lisa came out ahead with 147 votes. Georgia/Eddie/Katie won second place with 136 votes.

Best Storyline of 1998

Thirty-two different storylines or happenings were named in this category. It's a good thing many fans enjoyed this story as it got a lot of airtime. Receiving 26% of the total, Carly's quest for $50 million was voted as the best story of 1998. Three other most often mentioned stories: the Jack/Julia romance, Emily going after Tom, and Camille's breast cancer.

Worst Storyline of 1998

They just shouldn't have done it, fan's said. What shouldn't they have done? Have Sam and Kirk leave and disappear off the docks. Three other stories were mentioned most often, but by less than half of the fans who voted for Sam and Kirk's leaving/disappearance. Those stories are: Emily's pregnancy, Emily and Tom sleeping together, and the James/Lucinda marriage. Funniest write-in: Lucinda's personality going wimpy. Saddest write in: Nancy's lack of story.
