There is so much talk about what is wrong with ATWT, but there are a few reasons why I continue to watch. There are many stories brewing that I am excited about -- I just hope the writers can bring a good ending to them. The build-up in the Reid story is intriguing. This story is definitely different than other typical summer stories and it has involved MANY characters -- Lily, Holden, Denise, Brad, Andy, Molly, Julia, Jack, Rita, Emily, Tom and hopefully eventually Margo and Lucinda (still hoping she'll return soon!). Whether this guy is really David or not, this is the first storyline in years that has involved that many characters. Reid flits from Julia to Molly, then to Rita, and still has time to fight with Jack, semi-raise a child, and keep covering his tracks! There are many possibilities for a good ending to this story and I hope the new writers can come up with something that can do justice to the quality acting we've seen out of Lily, Denise, Emily, and Rita -- not to mention Reid - he is the creepiest guy in Oakdale since Tonio Reyes. I hope the ending is one that has ripples for years to come! While I have never been fond of teeny-bopper romances on soaps, I have suffered through many of soaps over the years. Remember Dani/Jeremy/Nikki or Dani/Ryder/Nikki or Paul/Lien/Andy? These were insufferable! Georgia and Eddie, however, are sweet and refreshing -- and I don't want to puke every time they come on screen. Katie and Christopher may not be the best, but I think with the right writing, these characters can go in completely different directions than a love triangle. The actor playing Chris played an OUTSTANDING role on AMC, so I know he is capable if given the right part. There is one great new character -- Alec. At first I didn't like him, but now I absolutely think he is the best addition to ATWT since Jack Snyder. His voice, his smooth moves, and the way he can "play with the big boys" in business makes him great to watch. He's already made a few enemies in town, but has some important allies. I hope this is a start to a business storyline involving both Worldwide and Walsh (who is running that company anyway?). I would love to see Lucinda have someone of his caliber to fight with! The relationships with Eddie and with Margo both keep me wondering where they will lead. Will Margo actually leave Tom for someone else? I never thought it possible - and never wanted it to happen, but after seeing her with him, I am rooting for a Malec pairing!! Whatever happens, it's great to see Tom and Margo getting airtime -- and seeing Tom realize that he may actually lose his beloved wife to someone else and that he has only himself to blame. TPTB are also putting Carly/Jack/Julia back in the forefront. This story has kept me switching from wanting Carly with Jack, Julia with Jack, to Jack completely alone! It has been done wonderfully so far -- we still don't know who Jack truly loves! All 3 actors are wonderful and while I haven't enjoyed the ease with which Reid has controlled Julia, I genuinely felt sorry for her when she overheard Jack telling Carly that he had never stopped loving her. Whoever Jack ends up with, I'm glad to see this triangle back out front! Finally - TPTB are getting rid of Brad! This is one character I have never liked or identified with. It didn't help that he kept being recast. There are more that I'd like to see them get rid of, but Brad was at the top of my list of unnecessary and confusing characters! I have a few complaints as well, but they have been well documented by others. I would love to see an intriguing story that could involve Kim, Bob, Lisa, Barbara, John and Emma. I would love to see some of the Snyders return and the permanent return of Rosanna. I would like to see some of the newer characters interact more with veterans -- the scenes with Denise and Lily are GREAT! And of course, I am anxiously awaiting the return of the REAL Lucinda! There may be lots to complain about, but some things are done right and I will continue to tune in! |
