Soap Critics

Since my early days of watching soap operas, I and my friends have sat and laughed and made fun of certain characters, some of them my favorites. I have even criticized an actor's acting ability. When I go see a movie, I critique it to death, from the plot to the actors. Just like Siskel and Ebert. To me as a fan, that is part of watching a soap, a tv show or a movie. It is my right.

Why is it okay to criticize a character and actress like Molly and LKS, but not okay to do the same regarding Julia and Carly? Is it because Molly and LKS may have one fan, whereas Julia and Carly have many? That one fan of Molly/LKS may be offended.

I do not get offended when someone dislikes one of my favorite characters. That is their right. And when one has the courage to say on one of the boards that it is because of the actor/actress portraying that character, believe it or not, I have respect for that poster for telling the truth. We can't all like the same actor or character.

What is the point of a message board if we cannot honestly say how we feel about an actor or a character? It was okay to bash Faux Conner, but it is not okay to bash Carly or Julia? Why is that? Sometimes I laugh at the jokes made in regard to my favorites, sometimes I cringe. But I don't care! That is what the boards are for. Think how boring it would be if we all agreed. The problem is that posters are taking it personal when someone does not like their favorite character. We are bashing and praising the character/actor, NOT the poster.

The day that the film critics quit lashing and bashing on TV, in magazines and newspapers because it is not right, will be the day I will do the same.
