ATWT Should NEVER Recast...

Which character should ATWT never attempt to recast if the actor/actress chose to leave the show?

Elizabeth Hubbard as Lucinda Walsh

Here are just a few of the comments received:

  • Anytime a character is replaced, there is a certain period of adjustment. Sometimes the replacement proves acceptable, and sometimes not. I do not think I would be able to accept a new Lucinda. We have been through too many motherly, grandmotherly situations and business dealings together. I could not relate to anyone else being Lucinda.
  • No one can ever play her character like Elizabeth Hubbard. How could they??? She is a one in a million actress playing a woman that she developed from her gut. I never tire of watching her take Lucinda to a higher level!
  • There is nobody to compare or could do that character justice.
  • Nobody could do it in the same wonderful way.
  • There can be no other Lucinda Walsh except Elizabeth Hubbard. Now, if they would just give her more material.
  • Elibaeth Hubbard is truly a unique and wonderfully talented actress!
  • There is not and never could be a replacement for ol' Lucy -- she's one of a kind! Any attempt to recast the role of Lucinda would absolutely not work, because there is only one Lucinda, and that's Elizabeth Hubbard.

Larry Bryggman as John Dixon
(18 votes)

Here are just a few of the comments received:

  • To me there is only one John Dixon. And I can not see anyone else playing the character.
  • He is the character that you love to hate and love and hate and love and hate and....
  • His shoes cannot be filled.
  • There are several characters that I feel that could not be easily replaced or recast, but I will mention only one since he is the one who has a story at this time -- Larry Bryggman -- John Dixon.
  • The character of John Dixon should NEVER be given to anyone other than Larry Bryggman. He is the man we love to hate, the rascal with a glint in his eye that makes you wonder just where he has been, and what his next moves will be. No other actor has as much expression to give to this particular character. John has been many things to many people, and LARRY is the man to play the role. A scene with John Dixon in it is an episode worth watching!

Eileen Fulton as Lisa Grimaldi
(18 votes)

Here are just a few of the comments received:

  • They tried with someone Von-something [Betsy Von Furstenberg, 1983 to 1984] or other a long time ago when the character was married to Whit McColl. Not good. I believe that Eileen Fultonr eturned just when they found Whit murdered.
  • There are so many, but the first that comes to mind is Eileen Fulton as Lisa. As a third generation viewer of ATWT, my mom has told me of the time that ATWT did re-cast the character - only to receive a deluge of mail from some very upset fans. Eileen is Lisa and no one could ever quite do justice to the role.
  • Lisa should never be recast. They tried it when she left the show before, and I couldn't watch it. Eileen Fulton is Lisa.

Martha Byrne as Lily Walsh
(15 votes)

Here are just a few of the comments received:

  • They tried it before and it didn't work. Martha Byrne is the only true Lily!!
  • [It was tried] once and no one took the replacement seriously. Oh nice one she had plastic surgery after the fire, real believable - NOT!! Martha Byrne has grown up on the show and off. She began when she was around 16 years old and the chemistry she has built with Jon Hensely, Holden Snyder, is remarkable. They have gone through so much and finally made it out on top. To recast one of them would lose all credibility to what ATWT has achieved so far.
